Redsn0w 0.9.7 developed by the iPhone Dev Team that is currently available for beta testing - needs iOS 4.2 beta3 SHSH blobs, which is a major problem as it limits the number of users who can use it (as beta versions of iOS is only available to developers of iOS Dev program).iPhone Dev Team have recently announced that they're planning to address this issue as they've managed to successfully port the Monte technique to iOS 4.1. iPhone Dev Team revealed this via the following tweets:Ported Monte back to 4.1 kernel (SHSH blobs). Next step: porting it forward to 4.3beta!MuscleNerd has provided some more details about the Monte technique:
@Harchu30 the beauty of Monte is it doesn't expose any new exploits :) It makes the entire "wait until next FW" concern moot@digitaldj yep! The concept behind Monte-4.1 is to look exactly like stock 4.1 until pwnage, then switch over completely to 4.2.1Think of Monte as a "green" jailbreak. It recycles (for example) 4.1's exact JB exploit on 4.2.1 :) Waste no exploits. This means that users will be able to use Redsn0w 0.9.7 to perform an untethered jailbreak of their iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch on iOS 4.2.1 using iOS 4.1 SHSH blobs (which would have been automatically saved by Cydia if you had jailbroken your iOS device while it was running iOS 4.1).Meanwhile, Chronic Dev Team have also announced that they’re planning to release an updated version of greenpois0n to jailbreak iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch on iOS 4.2.1. The jailbreak will be untethered and doesn’t need SHSH blobs. There is currently no ETA available on when the updated version of greenpois0n and Redsn0w for iOS 4.2.1 will be available. As always, we’ll let you know as soon as it is available so stay tuned here at iPhone Hacks or follow us on Twitter or subscribe to our RSS feed.[via Dev Team]TweetShareRelated PostsChronic Dev Team To Release Greenpois0n For iOS 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak Soon; Doesn’t Need SHSH BlobsDev Team Releases Redsn0w 0.9.7b4 For iOS 4.2.1 Untethered JailbreakRedsn0w 0.9.7b1 For iOS 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak For iPhone 4, iPad And iPod Touch 4G Released [Updated]Untethered Jailbreak For iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS (Newer Bootrom) And iPod Touch 4G On iOS 4.2.1 Coming SoonDev Team Will Release Redsn0w For iOS 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak Over Christmas Weekend; Looking For TestersPosted by iPhoneHacks on January 25, 2011 in Jailbreak iOS, Jailbreak iPad, Jailbreak iPhone, Jailbreak iPhone 3GS, Jailbreak iPhone 4, Jailbreak iPhone 3G, Jailbreak iPod Touch, Redsn0w, iOS 4.2, iPhone 4.2, iOS 4.2.1, iPhone 4.2.1, iPhone Dev Team | Permalink|Comments (16) Comments

January 25, 2011 at 8:21 PM ReplyNo update from Geohot, he seems to busy jailbreaking PS3 and Windows Phone 7
January 25, 2011 at 8:24 PM ReplyStill waiting for the unlock for 4.1 baseband 02.10.
04…. come on already
Seriously, and whatever happened to Christmas deadline? this has been the slowest jailbreak out of all…
Dev team need to step it up a little! or is it coz geohots is not helping them anymore so they can take credit for his work?
and for all of you haters who will say “just appreciate what they have” SHUT UP, I DO APPRECIATE WHAT THEY HAVE. if they didnt keep having those empty promises, why tell the public they have something and NOT release it or just keep it to themselves?
January 26, 2011 at 12:27 AM ReplyI miss point of doing this ?!
Now they can port that all the way to 3.1.2 ?!
Unusable.
January 25, 2011 at 9:29 PM ReplyYou obviously dont undersytand. You use the old IoS to jailbreak to newer. So all future are jail breakable using the old iOS. Never have to wait for an exploit that works.
January 25, 2011 at 11:25 PM ReplySame here I’m waiting for 4.1 BB 2.10 unlocking tool

January 26, 2011 at 2:48 AM Replyman! we really have some ungrateful people here..
for all those who can’t wait…try figuring out how to jailbreak on your own and see how far you’ll get.
Don’t blame the Dev-team, they did not lock your phone. Take you whining to someone who really cares…STEVE JOBS… HE LOCKED YOUR PHONE and you bought it. Be patient. (Good things come to those who wait)
Exactly. Lay the blame where it belongs: Apple.
