Developers of XBMC Media Centre (formerly known as XBOX Media Centre) – the open source media center program have released their application for jailbroken iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch and 2nd generation Apple TV.Its not a thin client streamer or a remote but a full-fledged XBMC client, including support for playing a variety of codecs, with hardware support for both 720p and 1080p HD video. You will be able to drag and drop media from your computer, or share it on your home-network so "no longer is your AppleTV2 chained to iTunes."You can checkout XBMC jailbreak app running on the Apple TV 2, iPhone 4 and iPad below:There are still some issues that need to be ironed out. For example, since XBMC for 1st generation Apple TV was ported to iOS devices, the touch controls are not designed for the interface. Yo Mama said... Deleted is after a few minutes. The interface is too small. Can’t expand the screen like safari to make it any easier to use. Couldn’t figure out how to… do anything with it, really.

I really love XBMC on my xbox and want to give this a try, but being the first app, jailbroken or otherwise that requires 4.1, it isn’t worth upgrading for.

Modi said... Looking forward to using this on the iPad, however the teathered jailbreak eats battery like smeg. There is no good reason to lose 10% of the battery in an overnight sleep session. Reverting to stock 4.2.1 and that problem went away.
Hopefully greenpois0n or the dev team will do a proper jailbreak just in time to lose it for 4.3
